The concept of this shoot was inspired by the ads and illustrative photos I remember always seeing in guitar magazines in the late-1980s. I think I achieved what I wanted to try — especially with this shot, which I think nails the concept exactly right.

The Hope In Winter:
I had the idea for “The Hope In Winter” late last year. I contacted Anne with the idea, but we didn’t get around to shooting it until February. A part-time professional model, Anne was nine months pregnant with her second child at the time of the shoot.
The photo of Anne was combined with landscapes I shot deep in the North Cascades specifically for this purpose, and a shot of a bird I took also specifcally for this.
