Facebook is the 2nd most visited site in the world, second only to Google. It has more than 500 MILLION active users. A massive 50% of these active users logon to Facebook in any given day. Facebook has a HUGE potential and you need to be tapping into it!
The important thing to be aware of is that Facebook is as ‘social networking’ site and NOT a business site, so you need to keep this in mind. You need to remember that 99% of the people who join Facebook do so because they are looking for friends and want to connect; they don’t want to be bombarded by sales pitches or spammed with business opportunities!
If you apply the tips below you will start seeing huge results in your marketing on Facebook!
- The first thing you need to do if you’re going to get anyone to follow you is to become (or portray yourself) as an expert or a leader in your field. The very minimum you need to do is to create a ‘Group’ and a ‘Fan Page’.
- Another really important aspect of attracting people is images. The fact is that most people won’t follow someone who does not have an image of themselves in their profile. This is all about trust and people trying to connect with each other. By uploading a photo of yourself perhaps having fun with your family and adding this to your profile you are in essence building that trust. They do say that a picture is worth a thousand words.
- Underneath the image section in your profile there is a section called ‘bio’. Many people leave this blank, in fact I used to leave this blank as well; I wasn’t really sure exactly what to put in it there. Unbeknown to me this is exactly where people look when they go to your information. Your ‘bio’ tells people who you are, what you do and why you are in Facebook. It’s not a place to advertise your products and service and it’s really important that you complete it the best you can. Once a person comes across you on Facebook the absolute first thing they will do before becoming a friend or a fan is to look at your ‘bio’ information. First impressions are everything when it comes to Facebook as people will just move on and you can easily miss your opportunity.
- As Facebook is a ‘social network’ it will not look kindly if you try to openly or aggressively advertise your product or business with sales or capture pages. Your job on Facebook is to attract people to YOU! You need to portray yourself as a leader and share valuable information with your friend’s, fans and people who discover you. So, when you are writing updates or posts make sure that you’re providing interesting and valuable information that your readers can make use of. Try not to drift into writing sales pages or promotions.
